Job Summary

The Health and Safety Specialist will support the daily operations and administer health and safety related functions in the facility. This role will assist in investigations to identify and resolve issues, and support the health and safety manager in these investigations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day health and safety functions
  • Determine causes and impacts of problems
  • Present information clearly and concisely, both written and verbally
  • Develop and implement safety initiatives in compliance with regulations
  • Assist in monitoring employees on modified duty
  • Chair monthly Occupational Health and Safety meetings
  • Participate in GFS safety audits and implement best practices
  • Conduct on-site orientations for new hires
  • Ensure completion and tracking of contractors' safety agreements
  • Conduct monthly internal inspections and audits
  • Assist with emergency planning and procedures

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years experience in Health and Safety or combination of education and experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form
  • Self-starter with good time management and documentation skills
  • Dependable and able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and Word
