Dessert Holdings Inc., a leading provider of premium desserts, is seeking a dedicated Health and Safety Specialist to join our team in Delta, British Columbia. This role plays a vital part in ensuring the well-being of our employees and maintaining a safe and compliant work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide guidance and support to promote a culture of safety within the facility.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state/provincial regulations by staying informed about evolving laws and standards. Advise management on necessary actions to maintain compliance.
- Conduct thorough investigations into incidents and accidents using root cause analysis techniques. Prepare comprehensive reports and track relevant data.
- Maintain accurate records of safety-related incidents and implement corrective measures based on findings.
- Collaborate with other Dessert Holdings facilities to share best practices and support the implementation of company-wide initiatives.
- Review and provide recommendations for safe work procedures, written reports, and hazard analyses. Conduct regular safety compliance inspections.
- Monitor adherence to the company's safety program by all employees, visitors, and contractors.
- Partner with Human Resources in managing workers' compensation claims.
- Ensure accurate completion and submission of required incident reports and compliance documentation (e.g., 300, 300A logs, injury reports).
- Coordinate the site health and safety committee and ensure its effective operation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or technical training in a safety-related field.
- Professional designation (e.g., CSP, CRSP) is an asset.
- Comprehensive knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and standards (ANSI, etc.).
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) to effectively influence at all levels and demonstrate strong leadership qualities.
- Proficiency with database applications and administrative systems, particularly Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage tasks independently with minimal supervision.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience supporting safety in a manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in a production environment for extended periods, including standing, stooping, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds (with assistance when necessary).
- Exposure to environmental changes such as heat, cold, dampness, and chemicals.
- Must be able to work in a food allergen environment.
