Job Overview
The Underwriter II – Commercial Lines plays a crucial role in evaluating the acceptability of moderately complex business risks with a moderate premium volume. This position operates under general supervision and collaborates closely with our sales team to deliver valuable expertise and service to both prospective and current policyholders, ensuring adherence to company guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments utilizing technology and external data sources to facilitate quoting, negotiating, and authorizing risk acceptance.
- Coordinate with reinsurance or subscribing companies as necessary.
- Assess eligibility for policy renewals in alignment with company guidelines and retention objectives.
- Keep precise records of decisions made and ensure the completeness of policy data.
- Communicate decisions clearly and respond to inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Aid in the interpretation of rating procedures, policy wordings, underwriting practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Manage work assignments, including phone calls, efficiently.
- Collaborate effectively towards achieving team goals.
- Foster positive working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, including networking at industry events.
- Undertake additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of three years of experience in the Property and Casualty insurance sector.
- Relevant post-secondary education or equivalent business experience.
- Completion or active pursuit of a Property and Casualty Industry Designation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to thoroughly review information.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with a focus on providing justification.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting information persuasively.
- Solid decision-making abilities with the capacity to justify choices.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize daily responsibilities.
