Job Overview

Under general supervision, the Commercial Lines Underwriter II is tasked with evaluating the acceptability of moderately complex business risks with a moderate premium volume in accordance with company policies. This role involves collaboration with our sales team to deliver valuable expertise and service to both prospective and current policyholders.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct risk assessments utilizing technology and external data sources for quoting, negotiating, and authorizing risk acceptance. Coordinate reinsurance or subscribing companies when necessary. Assess eligibility for policy renewals based on company guidelines and retention objectives. Keep precise records of decisions made and ensure the completeness of policy data. Communicate decisions and respond to inquiries in a timely and professional manner. Assist in interpreting rating procedures, policy wordings, underwriting guidelines, and regulations. Manage work assignments, including calls, efficiently. Collaborate effectively towards team objectives. Foster positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including networking at industry events. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum of three years of experience in the Property and Casualty insurance sector. Relevant post-secondary education or equivalent business experience. Completion or active pursuit of a Property and Casualty Industry Designation. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to thoroughly review information. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to justify decisions. Excellent communication skills with the ability to present information persuasively. Strong decision-making abilities with a focus on justification. Outstanding customer service skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize daily responsibilities.
