About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Commercial Lines Underwriter to join our team at Intact Financial Corporation. As a key member of our Commercial Lines department, you will play a critical role in assessing and evaluating risks, building relationships with brokers, and growing a profitable book of business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and evaluate moderate to complex risks to ensure accurate and timely underwriting decisions.
  • Apply effective pricing and underwriting strategies to maximize profitability and minimize risk.
  • Quote, negotiate, and sell new business, renewals, and endorsements to develop and retain profitable business.
  • Participate in broker visits, industry functions, and marketing events to build relationships and identify sales opportunities.
  • Provide technical advice, coaching, and mentorship to team members to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Use computer systems to manage policy inquiries, electronic filing, underwriting, and rating transactions.
  • Foster cooperative broker relationships to identify and develop sales opportunities.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3+ years of commercial insurance experience.
  • Strong track record of developing, mentoring, and coaching teammates.
  • Able to develop and maintain excellent relationships with brokers and colleagues.
  • Sales-focused and demonstrated confidence when negotiating and communicating with brokers.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Self-driven and able to work well under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  • Solution seeker and able to make recommendations to increase work efficiency.
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products and capable of navigating through multiple systems in a fast-paced environment.
  • Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation preferred.
