Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Metal Finishing Technician to join our team at Umbrella Group of Companies. This position involves working in a dynamic environment focused on the preparation and finishing of metal products.

Work Setting
  • Relocation costs are not covered by the employer.
  • Involves working in a platework fabrication plant and a sheet metal fabrication shop.
  • Experience in a metal products manufacturing company is preferred.
  • Exposure to heavy machinery manufacturing and industrial facilities.
Key Responsibilities
  • Operate metal cleaning equipment to eliminate excess welds, rust, scale, and other contaminants from metal surfaces.
  • Transport items throughout the facility using powered equipment.
  • Manually handle raw materials, finished products, and equipment.
  • Immerse metal products in cleaning solutions as part of the preparation process.
  • Assist structural steel and platework fitters, sheet metal workers, and other metal workers.
  • Sort metal sheets, parts, scrap metal, and other materials efficiently.
  • Grind or chip excess metal from products using hand tools.
  • Maintain cleanliness of machines and work areas.
  • Load and unload vehicles as required.
  • Polish metal products to achieve a mirror finish.
  • Read and interpret work orders accurately.
  • Operate forklifts safely.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Experience with sandblasting and surface preparation methods.
  • Familiarity with power cutting tools and powered lifting equipment.
  • Knowledge of mechanical sprayers.
  • Experience in paint spraying is an asset.
  • Specialization in welding and painting is beneficial.
Safety and Transportation
  • Must pass a driving record check and a criminal record check.
  • Valid driver's license and own transportation are required; public transportation is not available.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks and engage in physically demanding work.
  • Manual dexterity and attention to detail are essential.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods and handle heavy loads (more than 45 kg or 100 lbs).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a large workload.
Tools and Equipment
  • Must provide own tools, including steel-toed safety boots and a hard hat.
