Job Overview

The Human Resources Specialist plays a crucial role in providing direction, assistance, and coordination in the implementation of Human Resources policies, procedures, and practices. This position will support the HR Manager in ensuring that all human resources activities are executed in compliance with relevant regulatory legislation, collective agreements, and organizational policies.

Key Responsibilities

Facilitate the recruitment and selection processes. Provide guidance and support to departmental leaders on the interpretation and administration of HR policies, procedures, and programs, as well as the revision and maintenance of these policies. Ensure that all relevant policies, procedures, practices, processes, and systems align with organizational goals and comply with applicable laws. Contribute to the development of HR objectives and systems, including metrics, queries, and ongoing reporting for organizational needs. Assist the HR Manager with labor relations matters, including negotiations and grievance resolution as necessary. Educate employees about benefits and pension plans; respond to inquiries regarding Group Insurance coverage and Pension Plan specifics. Support the administration of benefits, compensation, and employee performance initiatives. Manage the Short-Term Disability process, including the completion of necessary claim documentation, employee leave notifications, and arrangements for modified duties or return to work. Collaborate with the HR Manager in developing and implementing programs in accordance with company HR policies and procedures. Maintain organized and confidential employee records. Promote a healthy work environment and foster a positive workplace culture. Participate in the screening, interviewing, and selection of potential candidates. Represent the organization at career fairs and other employment-related events. Update and revise training programs as needed to adapt to changes in the work environment or legislation. Uphold the organization's Customer Care Commitments to both internal and external stakeholders. Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

A post-secondary diploma, degree, or certificate in human resources or a related field. 2-4 years of prior experience in human resources is preferred. Experience in a unionized setting is advantageous.

SKILLS/ABILITIES

Excellent presentation and communication abilities. Professional, discreet, and aware of the importance of confidentiality. Strong skills in problem identification and resolution. Self-motivated with high energy and enthusiasm. Capable of performing basic calculations and mathematical tasks. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team. High integrity and strong work ethic. Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times. Exceptional conflict resolution, negotiation, and objection handling skills. Highly adaptable with solid interpersonal skills for effective collaboration in a diverse environment. Strong attention to detail in all aspects of work. Ability to interact with individuals sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally. Proficient in computer skills, particularly MS Office, and adept in using the internet and email. Capable of working well under pressure and meeting deadlines.

ASSETS

Proficiency in Oji-Cree or Ojibway is a plus. Experience in the aviation sector is an asset. Previous HR experience in a federally regulated environment is beneficial. Ability to lift up to 10 lbs repeatedly. Manual dexterity is required. Availability for weekend/evening work may be necessary. Travel may be required.
