Human Resources Specialist

Job Overview
The Human Resources Specialist plays a pivotal role in providing direction, assistance, and coordination in the implementation of Human Resources policies, procedures, and practices. This position will support the HR Manager in ensuring that all human resources activities are executed in alignment with relevant regulatory frameworks, collective agreements, and organizational policies.
Key Responsibilities
Facilitate the recruitment and selection process for new hires. Offer guidance and support to departmental leaders regarding the interpretation and execution of HR policies, procedures, and programs, including the review and updating of these policies. Ensure that all pertinent policies, procedures, practices, and systems align with organizational goals and comply with applicable laws. Contribute to the development of HR objectives and systems, including metrics, queries, and ongoing reporting for organizational needs. Assist the HR Manager with labor relations matters, including negotiations and grievance resolution as necessary. Provide education and information regarding benefits and pension plans; respond to employee inquiries about Group Insurance and Pension Plan specifics. Support the administration of benefits, compensation, and employee performance initiatives. Manage the Short-Term Disability process, including the completion of necessary claim documentation and employee leave notifications, as well as arrangements for modified duties and/or return to work. Collaborate with the HR Manager to develop and implement programs in accordance with the company's Human Resources policies and procedures. Maintain organized and confidential employee records. Promote a healthy work environment and foster a positive workplace culture. Assist in the screening, interviewing, and selection of potential employees. Represent the organization at career fairs and other employment-related events. Update and revise training programs as necessary to adapt to changes in the work environment and/or legislation. Uphold the organization's Customer Care Commitments to both internal and external stakeholders. Perform any other related duties as assigned.Qualifications and Skills
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
A post-secondary diploma, degree, or certificate in human resources or a related field. 2-4 years of prior experience in human resources is preferred. Experience in a unionized setting is advantageous.SKILLS/ABILITIES
Excellent presentation and communication skills. Professional demeanor with a strong sense of discretion and confidentiality. Strong problem identification and resolution skills. Self-motivated with high energy and enthusiasm. Ability to perform basic calculations and handle numerical data. Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team. High integrity and strong work ethic. Maintain a professional appearance and attitude at all times. Exceptional conflict resolution, negotiation, and objection handling abilities. Highly adaptable with strong interpersonal skills to work effectively in a diverse environment. Strong attention to detail in all aspects of work. Ability to interact with individuals sensitively, tactfully, and professionally. Proficient in computer skills, particularly MS Office, and adept in using the internet and email. Ability to perform well under pressure and meet deadlines.ASSETS
Proficiency in Oji-Cree or Ojibway is a plus. Experience in the aviation sector is beneficial. Previous HR experience in a federally regulated environment is an asset. Ability to lift up to 10 lbs repeatedly. Manual dexterity is required. Availability for weekend/evening work may be necessary. Travel may be required.Employment Conditions
