Position Overview

General Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager of School & Public Programs, the successful candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, and assessment of educational and engagement initiatives focused on themes related to science, with particular emphasis on climate action. This role encompasses both the delivery of learning programs (50%) and the creation of innovative educational activities tailored for diverse audiences (50%). The individual will spearhead the development of dynamic learning experiences inspired by scientific content, particularly in relation to climate change, and will utilize evaluation frameworks to assess the impact of these initiatives.

The candidate must demonstrate creativity, initiative, and independent decision-making skills while maintaining a flexible and respectful approach in interactions with the public. This is a full-time position requiring occasional evening and weekend work, with hours subject to change based on seasonal activities and special events.

Key Responsibilities

1. Development and Coordination of Learning Programs (50%)
The Learning & Engagement Specialist will be tasked with developing, piloting, coordinating, and delivering science-based educational activities for a variety of audiences. Responsibilities include:

  • Creating, updating, and evaluating educational programs, tours, and demonstrations in collaboration with management.
  • Implementing and assessing grant-funded activities related to climate education.
  • Designing and enhancing digital initiatives, including virtual programs and online content.
  • Establishing and nurturing community partnerships to enhance program offerings.
  • Coordinating the strategy for volunteer engagement and support.
  • Promoting educational programs through various channels.
  • Conducting media interviews and representing the department's interests.

2. Delivery and Maintenance of Learning Programs (50%)
The role involves engaging with diverse audiences to facilitate both formal and informal learning experiences, ensuring a positive visitor experience. Responsibilities include:

  • Leading daily educational programs and operations.
  • Delivering interpretive programs for school and public audiences.
  • Providing information and support to visitors regarding educational offerings.
  • Managing logistics and resources for programs.
  • Training and supervising volunteers to ensure effective program delivery.

Qualifications

Skills and Experience

  • Proven expertise in program development for various audiences.
  • Strong skills in facilitating engaging learning experiences.
  • Excellent communication abilities in both official languages.
  • Demonstrated public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Experience with digital platforms and content creation is an asset.

Education

  • A degree in a relevant field such as Education, Science, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in a similar role focused on educational program development.
