Position Summary
The Bilingual Environment Coordinator (English/French) is responsible for orchestrating environmental and health program processes to support the team in ensuring compliance, managing environmental and safety risks, and enhancing overall performance. This role emphasizes the coordination of environmental initiatives, with some responsibilities related to health and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Program Coordination
- Oversee environmental initiatives, including but not limited to: Legionella management, asbestos oversight, potable water quality, indoor air quality, halocarbon management, fuel storage compliance, hazardous materials oversight, environmental certifications, and waste management.
- Serve as the primary contact for environmental and health-related inquiries and incidents.
- Provide guidance to team members on environmental and health issues, escalating matters as necessary.
- Facilitate the implementation of environmental, health, and safety programs, along with associated processes and resources, and conduct orientation sessions for teams.
- Assist with health and safety initiatives, including participation in committees, incident investigations, emergency response planning, training delivery, data management, and compliance audits.
- Conduct research on environmental, health, and safety topics, providing findings and recommendations.
- Maintain and assist in developing environmental, health, and safety documentation, including plans, processes, forms, and procedures.
- Support project teams by creating and managing documentation such as work instructions and training materials.
- Perform regular facility inspections to identify and mitigate potential environmental and health safety issues.
- Maintain emergency management and business continuity plans.
- Participate in field inspections and audits to monitor compliance with regulations and identify risks, providing feedback for improvements.
Incident Management
- Assist in investigating incidents, conducting root-cause analyses, and recommending resolutions.
- Coordinate the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Analyze trends and communicate observations to propose measures for incident reduction.
Compliance and Reporting
- Maintain comprehensive records of environmental, health, and safety data, including incident reports and compliance documentation.
- Assist in auditing compliance records and other relevant data.
- Prepare and distribute various reports related to environmental, health, and safety matters.
- Experience with database management and programming is considered an asset.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Strong background in environmental management systems and compliance auditing.
- Certification in Occupational Health & Safety or Environmental Management is preferred.
- 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in environmental, health, and safety roles.
- Bilingual proficiency in French and English, both written and spoken.
- Understanding of regulatory requirements related to environmental and health safety.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders.
- Proficient administrative skills with a focus on data accuracy.
- Analytical mindset with problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to work independently while providing support to the team as needed.
- Frequent travel to various sites may be required.
- A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle are necessary.
Professional Development
Interest in obtaining certifications such as Environmental Professional Certification, Canadian Registered Safety Professional, or Certified Health & Safety Consultant is advantageous.
