Position Overview

The Bilingual Environmental Coordinator (English/French) is responsible for orchestrating environmental and health program initiatives to support the team in ensuring compliance, managing environmental, health, and safety risks, and enhancing overall performance. This role primarily focuses on the coordination of environmental and health programs, with some responsibilities related to health and safety.

Key Responsibilities

Program Coordination

  • Oversee environmental initiatives, including but not limited to: Legionella management, asbestos oversight, potable water quality assurance, indoor air quality monitoring, halocarbon management, fuel storage compliance, hazardous materials oversight, environmental certifications (BOMA Best), and waste management.
  • Serve as the primary contact for environmental and health-related inquiries and incidents.
  • Provide guidance to team members on environmental and health issues, escalating inquiries as necessary.
  • Facilitate the implementation of environmental, health, and safety programs along with associated processes, procedures, and resources, including conducting orientation sessions for teams.
  • Assist with health and safety initiatives, including OHS committee meetings, incident investigations, emergency response planning, training delivery, data management, report generation, and compliance audits.
  • Conduct research on environmental, health, and safety topics, providing findings and recommendations.
  • Maintain and support the development of environmental, health, and safety documentation, including plans, processes, forms, logbooks, and procedures.
  • Support construction teams by creating, distributing, verifying, and maintaining documentation such as work instructions, checklists, and training materials.
  • Perform regular facility inspections to address potential environmental regulatory issues and health and safety concerns proactively.
  • Maintain business continuity and emergency management plans and procedures.
  • Participate in field inspections, job observations, health, safety, and environmental audits, and other reviews to monitor compliance with regulations and identify risks, providing recommendations for improvement.

Incident Investigation and Resolution

  • Assist in investigating and resolving incidents, including conducting root-cause analyses and providing recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Coordinate the implementation of corrective and preventive measures.
  • Help identify and analyze trends, communicating observations and suggesting incident reduction strategies.

Audit Compliance, Data Management, and Reporting

  • Maintain comprehensive environmental, health, and safety data, including incident reports and compliance records within relevant databases.
  • Assist in auditing compliance records and other environmental, health, and safety data.
  • Prepare and distribute various reports related to environmental, health, and safety, including incident reports.
  • Experience with database development and maintenance is considered an asset.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong background in developing and managing environmental management systems, with knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance auditing.
  • Certification in Occupational Health & Safety or Environmental Management is preferred.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in environmental, health, and safety roles.
  • Bilingual proficiency in French and English, both written and spoken.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements related to environmental, health, and safety.
  • Knowledge of emergency management protocols.
  • Excellent organizational and coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple processes and projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders.
  • Proficient administrative skills, ensuring accurate data maintenance and reporting.
  • Analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Capable of working independently while providing robust support to the team as needed.
  • Frequent travel to various sites may be required.
  • A valid driving license and access to a vehicle are necessary.
