Role Overview: Under the leadership of the Chief Investment Officer, the Total Portfolio Management Group (TPM) provides a comprehensive view across the OMERS investment portfolio, focusing on trading, liquidity management, portfolio strategy, portfolio analytics, and capital allocation. The TPM group collaborates closely with the broader investment teams and partners to integrate best-in-class thinking on portfolio construction and support the evolution of the investment strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop a 3-year CIO Strategy in alignment with the broader OMERS corporate strategy and business units, addressing investment strategy, approach, portfolio design, and operating model refinement.
  2. Collaborate with investment business units to articulate their strategy, strategic priorities, and ad-hoc strategic initiatives.
  3. Conduct analysis for periodic reviews of the investment operating/business model.
  4. Perform research on global peers, investment strategies, benchmark setting, asset allocation, and other relevant topics to produce strategic insights.
  5. Conduct in-depth analysis and prepare presentations for OMERS portfolio regarding asset mix, investment strategies, and performance to assist in total portfolio decisions.
  6. Synthesize analysis and insights into clear, concise messages for stakeholders throughout OMERS.
  7. Engage with cross-OMERS personnel to enhance TPM's understanding of investment strategies and portfolios.
  8. Collaborate and share insights across investment teams to achieve optimal outcomes for the pension plan.
  9. Mentor less experienced team members, sharing knowledge and insights to support the growth of the Portfolio Strategy team.

Qualifications:

  1. 5+ years of professional experience in investment management, management consulting, or financial services/asset management; pension fund experience is advantageous.
  2. Familiarity with asset allocation, a broad range of investment securities/products, and operating models of investment management firms.
  3. Ability to see the big picture and apply a structured approach to problem-solving and strategic thinking.
  4. Proficiency in synthesizing complex topics into presentations for senior management.
  5. Detail-oriented and curious, with a commitment to staying ahead of trends and continually learning.
  6. High attention to detail complemented by a strategic perspective.
  7. Proficient in MS Excel and PowerPoint.
  8. Familiarity with financial database software such as FactSet or Bloomberg is a plus.
  9. Demonstrated initiative and ability to deliver results.
  10. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships across OMERS.
  11. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks while delivering high-quality outputs within deadlines.
