Position Overview:
At HOOPP (Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan), our Investment Solutions Group (ISG) is committed to delivering innovative technological advancements to traders, portfolio managers, and interdisciplinary teams, including Risk Management and Finance. We are in search of skilled Lead Business Analysts to spearhead projects throughout the trade, portfolio, and financial risk management lifecycle. These positions are essential in guiding the conception, design, analysis, execution, and maintenance of all Investment Trading applications utilized by our Investment Management division, which manages a substantial portfolio exceeding $60 billion.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Strategy and Execution:
- As a Lead Business Analyst with a focus on Risk, you will direct product strategy and execution within the Risk Technology team by meticulously investigating and analyzing requirements from clients and the Product Owner, while establishing and implementing project plans in close collaboration with development teams.
- In the capacity of a Business Analyst, you will work hand-in-hand with the Product Owner and Solution Architect to articulate and realize the product vision for trading applications. This entails developing roadmaps, managing project scope, defining minimal viable products, prioritizing backlogs, and crafting user stories based on both user and technical feedback.
Risk and Valuation Analysis:
- In the role of Lead Business Analyst, you will engage in hands-on analysis and delivery of intricate Risk solutions across various asset classes, including Equity, Fixed Income, Credit, Derivatives, FX, and OTC products, catering to the needs of Risk Managers, Finance, Portfolio Managers, and Reporting.
- You will have the opportunity to learn, support, and enhance existing Risk and Valuation solutions.
Stakeholder Collaboration and Requirements Gathering:
- For the Lead Business Analyst position, cultivating and maintaining relationships with key business stakeholders (Traders, Portfolio Managers, Risk, Finance, Security Operations, Data Management) is vital. This includes capturing requirements, prototyping solutions, conducting demonstrations, testing, and providing support for final deliverables.
- As a Business Analyst, you will partner with business teams across front office, back office, and risk divisions to thoroughly understand their trading requirements and document these for the team to refine and develop robust solutions.
Innovation and Technological Advancement:
- The Lead Business Analyst will be responsible for researching and introducing new and innovative ideas in Risk and Technology.
- As a Business Analyst, you will assess market software to determine alignment with trading business needs while enabling the team to create more value-added software.
Collaboration and Support:
- Both roles necessitate active collaboration within an agile framework, fostering significant amounts of teamwork, learning, and adaptability to achieve high-performance outcomes.
- You will be expected to provide timely support for business teams when issues arise or inquiries are made, requiring thorough investigation of technical challenges.
- Additionally, the Lead Business Analyst will co-create designs and processes for implementation by developers, ensuring quality alignment with critical operations.
Qualifications:
- The Lead Business Analyst role requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in Capital Markets (Banks, Asset Management Firms) with a focus on risk measurement, reporting, statistical analysis, and quantitative work.
- A degree in Finance, Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics, Computer Science, Business, or a related field is required.
- A CFA or FRM designation is preferred for the Lead Business Analyst role.
- A professional background in Technology, Financial Risk Management, and/or Quantitative Finance is essential.
- Knowledge of Investment Products is required.
- Proficiency in at least one of portfolio theory, investment strategies, and pricing theories is expected.
- Experience collaborating with IT analysts and developers to create solutions is crucial.
- For the Lead Business Analyst, hands-on experience with valuation models, risk models, and finance theory is critical.
- Technical skills, including Python, SQL, and data modeling, are necessary for the Lead Business Analyst.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for effective interaction with users, developers, and stakeholders.
- Strong facilitation and interviewing skills are vital for uncovering deeper business needs and usage patterns.
- Visual proficiency is advantageous for illustrating complex data models and data flows.
- A Quality Assurance mindset and the ability to test software for issues and functionality are essential.
- The capacity to make decisions in ambiguous situations is valued.
- Self-motivation, focus, and the ability to deliver with minimal direction are crucial.
- Strong leadership qualities are beneficial for fostering teamwork and enabling change.
- Professionalism, integrity, and the ability to prioritize tasks within a dynamic team are necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
- An understanding of IT principles such as databases, functions, UI (User Interfaces), business rules, and software systems is advantageous.
- For the Business Analyst, knowledge of basic Investment Risk fundamentals is helpful.
- Familiarity with third-party systems such as Simcorp Dimension (SCD), HANA, and Snowflake is a plus.
