Position Overview

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a dedicated Nurse Practitioner.

KAL'NUMET PRIMARY CARE CLINIC

VCH is on the lookout for a Nurse Practitioner to become part of the team at the Kal'numet Primary Care Clinic, which serves the Squamish Nation community in West Vancouver. This clinic, established to empower Indigenous health, focuses on delivering comprehensive care to both on-reserve and off-reserve members. The Nurse Practitioner will operate independently within the framework of the Aboriginal Wellness model, adhering to the organization’s core values and vision. This role emphasizes providing culturally sensitive care that addresses the holistic needs of Aboriginal peoples, encompassing physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental health.

VCH offers a reimbursement program for Nurse Practitioners (NPs) covering the costs associated with the Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE) for newly hired candidates who have yet to complete the exam. This reimbursement is structured as a forgivable loan, which is waived after one year of continuous employment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients, diagnosing various health conditions.
  • Initiate treatment plans, manage healthcare interventions, and prescribe medications following regulatory standards and organizational policies.
  • Provide professional advice to healthcare colleagues and function autonomously within interdisciplinary teams.
  • Collaborate with clients and other health professionals to identify health trends affecting individuals and communities.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based strategies aimed at improving health outcomes while participating in policy-making and quality enhancement initiatives.
  • Engage in peer and self-evaluation to assess service effectiveness at the client and community levels.
  • Maintain professional development and competence in practice, ensuring active medical staff privileges as required.
  • Report to the Operational Director of Professional Practice, with accountability for quality assurance and patient safety within the Nurse Practitioners' department.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Must hold current registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and possess a minimum of four years of relevant clinical nursing experience. Successful completion of the OSCE is mandatory.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Ability to perform all NP duties effectively.
  • Maintain necessary privileges as active medical staff within the VCH Regional Department of Nurse Practitioners.
  • Apply knowledge of various health sciences to clinical practice and patient management.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding health assessments and treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals for referrals and consultations when necessary.
  • Critically evaluate health research to implement best practices in care.
  • Recognize and address population health trends through strategic planning.
  • Implement and assess changes in practice as needed.
  • Demonstrate leadership within a team and program context.
  • Possess the physical capability to fulfill job responsibilities.
Conclusion

As per current Public Health Orders, all employees at Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or have received a single dose of the most recent vaccine. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
