Position Overview

Exciting opportunities exist for Nurse Practitioners at the Foundry Vancouver Granville clinic, a facility managed by Providence Health Care. This clinic offers a range of services including physical and sexual health, mental health support, substance use treatment, peer assistance, and social services, all delivered by a multidisciplinary team to youth aged 12 to 24.

Under the supervision of the clinic Director, the Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing episodic, specialized, and continuous care. The collaborative environment includes physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, social workers, counselors, rehabilitation services, peer support, and administrative personnel. Nurse Practitioners at this facility also benefit from shared care consultations with on-site psychiatrists.

The role involves working closely with patients and other healthcare professionals to identify and analyze health trends that impact individuals, families, and communities. The Nurse Practitioner will develop and implement evidence-based strategies aimed at improving health outcomes and will engage in policy-making initiatives that shape health services and practices. Participation in peer and self-evaluation is essential to assess the effectiveness of services provided at various levels.

Qualifications and Skills

Education Requirements:
- Current registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals.
- Recent relevant clinical nursing experience.
- Successful completion of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE).
- Completion of Basic Cardiac Life Support Course, Level C.
- Eligibility for appointment to the Providence Health Care Department of Nurse Practitioners as Medical Staff.

Skills and Abilities:
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with patients and families regarding health findings and treatment plans.
- Ability to consult and refer patients to other healthcare professionals as needed.
- Critical assessment skills for evaluating health research literature and implementing best practices.
- Competence in recognizing population health trends and planning preventive strategies.
- Leadership skills to supervise and evaluate the care provided by others.
- Capacity to adapt and interact effectively in complex healthcare situations.
- Ability to mentor and educate others in a clinical setting.

Key Responsibilities

- Diagnose and treat patients with undiagnosed conditions within the Nurse Practitioner’s scope of practice, including writing treatment orders and providing emergency care.
- Monitor ongoing patient care, order necessary diagnostic tests, and interpret results to inform treatment plans.
- Establish management priorities for health conditions and communicate effectively with patients and families regarding their health status and treatment outcomes.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to determine necessary resources for patient care and develop comprehensive treatment plans.
- Prescribe medications in accordance with regulatory standards and organizational policies.
- Supervise nursing and healthcare staff, providing education and performance evaluations as necessary.
- Engage in research and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and contribute to nursing and health policy advancements.
- Implement health promotion activities for at-risk populations and participate in the education of nurse practitioner students and other healthcare professionals.

Vaccination Requirement

In compliance with current Public Health Orders, all employees of Providence Health Care must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
