EFW Radiology is currently seeking a Lead Echocardiography Ultrasound Technologist to contribute to our mission of providing exceptional patient care.

It offers rapid, optimally performed and interpreted ECG services, transthoracic echocardiograms, stress testing, and myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) stress testing as part of a growing, integrated and dynamic multi-disciplinary clinic.

The Role

The Lead Echocardiography Ultrasound Technologist provides leadership at the clinic by maintaining clinic standards; overseeing department workflow; providing training; as well as performing ultrasound examinations in an efficient and effective manner. The Lead Technologist is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the ultrasound area within the clinic.

Reporting to: Ultrasound Supervisor

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership and guidance to ultrasound technologists, including:
    • Offering feedback, mentoring, and coaching on daily work processes and performance.
    • Escalating performance concerns to the Ultrasound Supervisor.
    • Contributing to the annual performance evaluation of technologists.
    • Delegating tasks as required to promote teamwork and growth.
  • Promotes and ensures a positive work environment.
  • Ensures supplies are ordered and inventory is maintained to allow the clinic to operate efficiently.
  • Maintains clinic standards for cleanliness and safety as per EFW processes and policies.
  • Collaborates with other modality heads and booking to manage patients and add-ons.
  • Troubleshoots clinical and patient issues as required.
  • Assists the Symphony physician with any technical or site-specific questions/situations.
  • Aids in the orientation of new radiology residents, employees, and Sonography students.
  • Communicates with patients professionally, explaining procedures and ensuring their safety and comfort during examinations.
  • Performs the duties of an ultrasound technologist, including scanning patients, assessing and evaluating ultrasound images, and providing accurate documentation in a timely manner to aid in diagnoses.
  • Oversees the creation and review of Ultrasound Policies and Procedures.
  • Manages day-to-day operations of assigned ultrasound portfolio ensuring that patient templates, scanning protocols, and standards of practice are effectively managed.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to assigned staff, including setting expectations, monitoring performance, and providing feedback and coaching.
  • Updates policies and procedures as needed, ensuring staff are aware of and trained on all procedural changes.
  • Adheres to and ensures compliance with all Safety policies and associated standards of practices, addressing issues and taking appropriate action where non-compliance is identified.
  • Promotes a strong team culture, building on strengths to achieve results.

  • Undertakes other related duties as assigned.

You have the following:

  • A dedicated clinical specialist in echocardiography for a minimum of 6 years, with a mix of outpatient and hospital inpatient scanning experience.
  • Expertise with agitated saline contrast studies, LV contrast opacification studies, strain, 3D, and stress echocardiography.
  • Credentialed Member of Sonography Canada in Echocardiology with liability insurance.
  • Consistently obtaining high-quality images.
  • Committed to providing professional and compassionate patient care.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to give clear instructions and ask questions when necessary.
  • Ability to provide leadership to team members through feedback and coaching.
  • Exhibit sound judgment and effective decision-making skills.
  • Ability to accept constructive feedback.
  • Strong team player who is comfortable interacting with other team members as well as working independently.
  • Logical, analytical, and critical thinking required.
  • Exceptional time management and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Strong computer and keyboarding skills, including a working knowledge of RIS software including ISCV.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced clinical environment.

Working Conditions:

  • May be required to attend training and meetings outside of regular business hours.
  • Repetitive actions of hand and arm.

Hours of Work:

EFW is dedicated to providing quality patient care with daytime, evening, and weekend clinic hours throughout all of our clinic locations. All EFW Radiology employees working in, or providing shared services to, our community clinics shall participate in being scheduled in the evening or weekend shifts as required. Our employees must also be able to work at any EFW clinic location and provide their own transportation.
