Your Opportunity:
Alberta Health Services is seeking a skilled Diagnostic Sonographer I to join our Cardiac Diagnostics team. Reporting to the Unit Manager, you will play a crucial role in conducting a variety of echocardiographic examinations, interpreting the pathophysiological aspects of these assessments, and documenting the findings accurately. Your expertise will be vital in performing and assisting with various echocardiography procedures, including Transthoracic Echocardiograms, Transesophageal Echocardiograms, Pericardiocentesis, Stress Testing, and Contrast studies. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to mentor and support learners, including sonography students and physician trainees. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively in high-pressure situations are essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Diagnostic Sonographer I, your primary duties will include:
- Conducting a range of standardized and advanced ultrasound services for diagnostic purposes.
- Preparing patients for examinations and reviewing their medical history.
- Explaining procedures to patients and obtaining high-quality ultrasound images.
- Taking appropriate actions in response to abnormal findings.
- Collaborating with Radiologists, Cardiologists, Perinatologists, and other healthcare professionals during special procedures.

Required Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, you must have:
- An extended diploma from an accredited ultrasound program or certification in Diagnostic Sonography.
- Active or eligible registration with Sonography Canada and/or Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic & Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT) and/or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Applicants should possess:
- A minimum of 1 year of experience as a Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer in an acute care environment.
- Experience in community settings may be considered if it is echo-specific.
Preferred Qualifications:
Desirable qualifications include:
- Experience with procedures such as Transesophageal Echocardiograms, Pericardiocentesis, Stress Testing, and Contrast Studies.
- ARDMS Pediatric Echo certification.
- Familiarity with IT systems relevant to the role.
