Your Opportunity:

The position of Diagnostic Sonographer I at Alberta Health Services operates within the specialized and highly technical field of Ultrasound. Under limited supervision, the Sonographer I evaluates patients, interprets diagnostic data, and collaborates with Radiologists to support diagnosis, clinical intervention, and patient management. Responsibilities may encompass a range of procedures, including general and pediatric vascular Ultrasound, along with specialized imaging techniques for conditions such as Bowel, Hip, Spine, Brain, and Intussusception as needed. These services are delivered in a safe, effective, and efficient manner. As a vital member of the Diagnostic Imaging team, this role requires flexibility to work various shifts and be on-call as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Diagnostic Sonographer I, you will conduct a diverse array of standardized and intricate ultrasound services aimed at diagnosing and monitoring diseases and pathologies. Your duties will include:

  • Preparing patients for examinations and reviewing their medical history.
  • Explaining procedures to patients and obtaining high-quality ultrasound images.
  • Taking initial actions to address any abnormal findings.
  • Assisting in diagnosis, clinical interventions, and patient management while maintaining a high standard of patient care and safety.
  • Collaborating with Radiologists, Cardiologists, Perinatologists, and other medical professionals during specialized procedures as required.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an extended diploma from an accredited ultrasound program or certification in Diagnostic Sonography from a recognized institution. Active or eligible for registration with Sonography Canada and/or Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic & Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT) and/or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification is also necessary.

Additional Required Qualifications:

A valid membership from Sonography Canada and/or American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) is essential. The ability to work independently at times and follow remote directions from a Radiologist is required. Recent experience in Pediatric Ultrasound within a tertiary hospital setting is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated proficiency in English, both verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities are essential. The capacity to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, along with the ability to work autonomously or as part of a multidisciplinary team, is highly valued.
