Position Overview: Our Tunnel and Water Groups are expanding, and we are seeking a Tunnel/Trenchless Engineer with expertise in the water sector. This role is crucial for a diverse range of tunnel engineering projects. The Tunnel Group is a vibrant team engaged in significant tunneling initiatives, including large diameter subway transit lines and municipal projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support project initiatives within GHD's Water division and assist with tunneling projects both nationally and internationally.
  • Contribute to technical and administrative tasks related to tunnel and underground structure development.
  • Conduct analyses directed by senior team members for tunnel liners and shaft design utilizing software such as PLAXIS, FLAC, and Rocscience.
  • Prepare reports and documentation for tunnel components of proposals.
  • Participate in client meetings alongside supervisors.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in geotechnical, geological, or civil engineering; a Master's in Tunnel/Geotechnical Engineering is advantageous.
  • Professional accreditation is essential or in progress.
  • Demonstrated experience in tunnel engineering and water-related projects.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in municipal tunnel/trenchless projects post-graduation.
  • Experience in tunnel design or construction teams.
  • Proficiency in designing mid-size tunnels (2m +).
  • Ability to design deep shafts and shoring structures.
  • Experience with soft ground tunneling and underground support structures.
  • Familiarity with analytical and numerical analysis methods and various geotechnical software.
  • Strong knowledge of tunneling/trenchless methods, logistics, equipment, and methodology selection.
  • Experience in calculating tunnel-induced settlement and assessing impacts on adjacent infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of settlement instrumentation and monitoring.
  • Experience with soft ground tunneling ancillaries, including ground treatment and freezing, is a plus.
  • Ability to assist in the preparation of project specifications.
  • Familiarity with cost estimation and scheduling for tunnel and shaft construction.
  • Proven experience in drafting detailed design reports and construction documentation.
  • Excellent technical writing, presentation, and teamwork skills.
  • A valid Ontario Driver's License (G).
