Job Overview

AECOM is seeking a skilled Municipal Engineer to join our Water group. This position offers the flexibility to work from various locations within the Greater Toronto Area.

The ideal candidate will possess a robust understanding and extensive experience in civil engineering, civil technology, and construction management principles, with a strong focus on the design and execution of municipal infrastructure projects. Collaboration within a team environment and effective communication with project stakeholders are essential. The candidate should demonstrate a proactive attitude, motivation, and a passion for delivering results. Responsibilities will primarily involve supporting the provision of infrastructure services in the municipal water, wastewater, and stormwater sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of water, wastewater, and drainage conveyance systems in a municipal context.
  • Design civil systems related to municipal water and/or wastewater and drainage facilities.
  • Conduct constructability assessments.
  • Perform inspections during construction phases.
  • Oversee construction contract management.
  • Prepare documentation for design initiatives and reports.
  • Estimate construction costs accurately.
  • Draft project specifications and contractual documents.
  • Engage in client communication and management; assist in proposal development; prepare and negotiate contracts; coordinate with regulatory bodies; and manage project planning, budgeting, and scheduling.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in civil engineering, design, construction inspection, or contract administration.
  • Experience with municipal water, wastewater, and/or stormwater conveyance and pumping infrastructure projects is essential.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Ontario.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills with colleagues, contractors, and clients.
  • Ability to thrive in a multi-disciplinary setting.
  • Project management training and experience is advantageous.
  • Experience in proposal writing and project scoping is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of design systems associated with lift stations, pump stations, and other mechanical equipment relevant to water and wastewater utilities is a plus.
  • Familiarity with trenchless technologies is an asset.
