Job Summary

The Canada Games Centre is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Aquatics Supervisor, Programs to oversee the operation of our Lifesaving Society Swim for Life & Leadership programs. This leadership role is responsible for the overall management of aquatic programs, staff supervision, program planning, and performance evaluations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the delivery of aquatic programs and services, ensuring they meet Lifesaving Society standards and internal policies.
  • Actively supervise weekday evening/weekend morning lessons, providing guidance and support to staff.
  • Evaluate staff and programs to ensure a high standard of quality is maintained.
  • Provide immediate coverage for unexpected demands and fill-in as a substitute swim instructor/lifeguard as required.
  • Create and manage staff schedules for aquatic programs, ensuring adequate coverage.
  • Communicate effectively with staff and the public, addressing concerns efficiently.
  • Work in conjunction with the Aquatics Coordinator to ensure program quality aligns with the Centre's values and Sport for Life vision.
  • Assist in developing and expanding procedural documents and training materials necessary for staff training.
  • Assist with program registration, changes, and cancellations.
  • Exercise independent judgment, maintain a professional demeanor under pressure, and take charge of emergency situations as needed.
  • Lead by example, instilling confidence and trust in fellow employees and the public.
  • Collaborate with all levels of the organization, including supervisors, staff, members, and patrons.
  • Work with various CGC departments to deliver services.
  • Conduct Person on Duty (POD) shifts as scheduled.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Aquatics Coordinators and/or Manager of Recreation & Program Services.
Qualifications
  • 3 to 5 years of work experience in an aquatic setting in a supervisory role.
  • National Lifeguard Award (NL) & Airway Management – Pool option (current within two years).
  • Intermediate Workplace First Aid (formerly SFA).
  • Swim for Life Instructor (SFL).
  • Lifesaving Instructor (LSI).
  • Instructor Training.
  • Examiner.
  • Experience in program development and implementation in a busy recreation environment.
  • Experience in supervising, mentoring, and coaching staff.
  • Experience with inclusion programming.
Desirable Qualifications
  • National Lifeguard & First Aid Instructor.
  • Airway Management Instructor.
  • HCP.
  • WHIMIS.
  • High Five Training.
  • Legend or Recreation Software experience.
