Personal Support Worker

Under the supervision of the Resource Coordinator – Home Care, the Personal Support Worker (PSW) plays a vital role within the Home Care team, delivering essential personal care and domestic support services to designated home care clients. As outlined in a structured care plan, the PSW offers paraprofessional assistance to elderly, physically challenged, and/or mentally impaired individuals across various age groups, enabling them to live independently in their homes for as long as safely feasible.

The individual in this role will demonstrate the necessary initiative and independent judgment to prioritize tasks, determine effective work methods, and address atypical situations. The position is performed in alignment with the mission, vision, and values, as well as the policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud.

Qualifications

  • Fluency in both official languages is required (English/French)
  • Completion of Grade 12 education is mandatory
  • Possession of a Home Care Attendant Certificate or Health Care Aide Certificate with a community component from an accredited post-secondary institution
  • Understanding of Safe Food Handling practices
  • Previous experience in assisting the elderly or disabled within a community context is preferred
  • Experience in a home care program is considered an asset
  • Proven ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills
  • Ability to respect and promote cultural diversity is essential, given the varied demographics of our region
  • Capacity to meet the physical and mental demands of the role
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality across all formats
  • Consistent work and attendance history

Conditions of Employment

  • A valid Class 5 driver's license, a fully insured vehicle, and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.00 are required
