Job Summary

The Home Care Attendant (HCA) is a vital member of the Home Care team at Southern Health-Santé Sud. As a paraprofessional, the HCA provides personal care and home support services to clients in their own homes, promoting independence and dignity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care services, including bathing, dressing, and grooming, as per the client's plan of care.
  • Assist clients with daily living activities, such as meal preparation, light housekeeping, and medication reminders.
  • Support clients with mobility and transfer needs, ensuring their safety and comfort.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, families, and healthcare professionals to ensure seamless care coordination.
  • Document client progress and report any changes or concerns to the Home Care Resource Coordinator.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Proficiency in both official languages (English/French) is essential.
  • Grade 12 education is required.
  • Home Care Attendant Certificate or Health Care Aide Certificate with a community component from a recognized post-secondary institute is required.
  • Knowledge of Safe Food Handling is essential.
  • Previous experience working with the elderly or disabled in a community setting is preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a home care program is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population.
  • Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job.
  • Good work and attendance record.

Physical Requirements

  • Completes and maintains a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Search, Adult Abuse Registry Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check, as appropriate.
  • All Health Care workers are required to be immunized as a condition of employment in accordance with Southern Health-Santé Sud policy.
  • Requires a valid Class 5 driver's license, an all-purpose insured vehicle, and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.00.
