Markham, Ontario, Canada Canadian Partnership for Women and Children Full time

The Strategic Partnerships Lead is an integral member of the Global Partnerships Team, responsible for cultivating and managing impactful alliances with institutional funders and prominent global foundations. This team is dedicated to enhancing the income, influence, expertise, and recognition of the Canadian Partnership for Women and Children as a preferred collaborator through targeted long-term partnerships at global, regional, and national levels.

By joining the Canadian Partnership for Women and Children, you are not only advancing your career but also playing a vital role in empowering women and children worldwide to achieve educational access, pursue their aspirations, and advocate for change. While there are numerous career paths available for talented individuals like you, few offer the chance to contribute to the lives of women and children, enabling them to dream without limits.

Reporting to the Director of Global Partnerships and based out of the Canadian office, the Strategic Partnerships Lead (SPL) is pivotal in identifying and evaluating revenue generation opportunities, managing and expanding a portfolio of strategic global partners, and increasing grant income in alignment with the organization’s growth objectives. The SPL will also play a crucial role in designing, testing, and scaling innovative processes and strategies.

This position collaborates closely with Business Development and Program Development Managers across various offices to forecast business development and grant opportunities, assess risks, and lead cross-functional teams in developing high-quality, competitive funding proposals for government, multilateral, and global foundation donors.

The primary objective is to enhance the impact and influence of the Canadian Partnership for Women and Children through global partnerships and securing institutional grant funding for new and ongoing strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Partnership Development and Management:

  • Act as the account manager for select global partnerships, optimizing existing relationships based on shared strategic interests and pursuing specific partnership opportunities.
  • Oversee all aspects of partnerships, ensuring the quality of materials and correspondence, addressing day-to-day issues, and tracking and reporting on joint activities.
  • Contribute partnership content to organizational publications.

2. Donor Mapping, Pre-positioning, and Proposal Development:

  • Conduct thorough donor mapping and analysis aligned with strategic program priorities, staying informed on changes in donor strategies and funding opportunities to position the organization as a relevant partner.
  • Build and maintain proactive communication with current and prospective institutional donors.
  • Foster strong collaborative networks with Business Development and Partnerships Managers in partner agencies for continuous intelligence sharing and consortium opportunities.
  • Lead proposal development processes for multi-country or regional initiatives, managing timelines and deliverables.
  • Provide technical input for proposals as needed.
  • Manage funding opportunity risk assessments and Go-NoGo processes in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Conduct debriefs on proposal development, documenting lessons learned and best practices for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure thorough documentation related to grant proposals and donor mapping.

3. Grants Pipeline Management and Reporting:

  • Perform monthly analyses of the grant pipeline and draft management reports, including match contribution requirements.
  • Provide weekly updates to the Director of Global Partnerships regarding movements in the grants pipeline, new awards, and contract negotiations.

4. Additional Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the proper use of organizational resources and equipment.
  • Undertake other related duties as assigned.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in international development, global business management, marketing and communications, or a related field is preferred.
  • Formal training in fundraising is advantageous.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in international development, including direct field and global experience in grants portfolio development and partnerships.
  • Proven track record of securing grants from institutional donors.
  • Advanced knowledge of Results Based Management (RBM).
  • Experience in child rights programming is an asset.
  • Strong research, report writing, and proposal development skills, including budget development knowledge.
  • Excellent relationship management and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with the donor development cycle and donor stewardship.
  • Ability to build and sustain partnerships across sectors.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Fluency in English, with proficiency in French or Spanish being an asset.
  • Willingness to travel for business, approximately 20% of the time.
  • A demonstrated commitment to the organization’s vision, mission, and values.
  • A collaborative and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities.

Work Type: Hybrid
