Your Opportunity:

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Alberta Health Services, you will be entrusted with delivering safe and effective nursing care in alignment with established policies and procedures. Your responsibilities will include observing, monitoring, reporting, and documenting changes in patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions. You will assist patients with daily living activities and provide essential information and education to both patients and their families. Our collaborative approach, known as CoAct with Care Hub nursing, involves RNs, LPNs, and HCAs working together across all shifts, ensuring comprehensive care.

This LPN role will involve regular moderate to heavy physical work to maintain patient safety and the well-being of unit staff. All personnel are expected to assist in mobilizing patients with diverse ambulation needs and disabilities. You will operate independently while also directing and overseeing the care provided by HCAs under the guidance of a Charge RN. In the Patient Care Unit (PCU) 24, you will join a supportive and cohesive team that encourages professional growth and the enhancement of your nursing skills. PCU 24 is a 28-bed unit dedicated to caring for surgical patients, including those undergoing Plastics, General Surgery, Bariatric, and Oral Maxillary Facial procedures, who are admitted from various sources including operating rooms and emergency departments.

Description:

As an LPN, you will be an integral part of an interprofessional healthcare team, employing nursing processes along with critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Your practice will be informed by your education, experience, and demonstrated competencies, in accordance with AHS policies and procedures. You will play a vital role in delivering safe, high-quality, patient-centered care that reflects the core values and vision of Alberta Health Services.

Required Qualifications:

- Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program.
- Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

- A minimum of 2 years of recent experience in post-operative care for Plastic Surgery patients.
- This position is physically demanding; the incumbent must assist with lifting, turning, and mobilizing patients, among other physical tasks.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, and prioritization skills are essential.
- Proven reliability and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Capacity to function in a high-intensity, high-acuity department.
- Basic computer proficiency is required.
- Successful candidates will engage in quality improvement initiatives at the front line, supporting and maintaining high standards of patient care within the surgical program.
