The Application Integrity team is tasked with performing audits on post-approval energy development applications to ensure regulatory compliance under Directive 056 and the Public Lands Act. Applications submitted for regulatory review undergo assessment criteria to ascertain the level of preliminary examination. The post-approval review is classified as an audit, confirming that submissions meet compliance standards and that associated approvals are sufficient for the requested authorization.

This role primarily focuses on auditing Directive 056 (well, pipeline, and facility) license applications. A solid understanding and experience with AER Directive 056, Manual 12, Oil and Gas Conservation Act (OGCA), Oil and Gas Conservation Rules (OGCR), Pipeline Rules, AER OneStop, along with knowledge of Directive 008, Directive 036, and Directive 071, is advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine and/or support complex audits and reviews on operations/activities. This includes preparing audit plans, gathering and analyzing information from diverse sources to assess compliance, monitoring compliance plans, and providing educational guidance to applicants to enhance application submissions.
  • Offer technical advice and direction to internal and external stakeholders regarding AER requirements.
  • Implement changes and revisions to relevant Directives, manuals, FAQs, protocols, procedures, Bulletins, and supporting policy initiatives.
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer by training and mentoring less experienced staff on Directive 056 and identifying areas where technical competency needs enhancement.
  • Support enterprise projects by providing technical guidance and input, assisting with the integration into the AER's core business functions, and collaborating with stakeholders.
Qualifications:
  • Technical diploma or Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering; or equivalent education and experience.
  • 5+ years of industry or regulatory experience, preferably within the oil and gas sector.
  • Strong knowledge and expertise with AER Directives 056, Manual 12, and Pipeline Rules.
  • Proficiency in using Onestop, DDS, and desktop software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and related applications.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to convey complex technical information to a variety of audiences and knowledge levels.
  • Solution-oriented with strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Positive attitude, self-motivated, with the ability to work collaboratively and share knowledge within a team environment.
  • Intermediate awareness of project management principles.
Additional Information:

  • Should an individual with the required qualifications not be available, applicants with closely related qualifications may be considered. As a result, the position may be redesigned and/or reclassified.
  • If you need accommodation during any stage of the recruitment process, please inform the relevant parties. Information relating to the need for accommodation and accommodation measures will be addressed confidentially.
What we offer:
  • Comprehensive benefits from your first day of work.
  • Flexible Work Program - hybrid work and flexible hours.
  • Generous vacation entitlement and flex days.
