Position Overview: Program Manager - Victim Assistance Unit

The City of Medicine Hat is dedicated to empowering individuals affected by crime through comprehensive support services. We are in search of a dedicated and skilled Program Manager to oversee our Victim Assistance Unit, playing a crucial role in enhancing the lives of those impacted by crime. This position entails strategic oversight, management, and evaluation of victim support initiatives. The successful candidate will possess a profound understanding of victim advocacy, program administration, and exceptional leadership capabilities to guide both staff and volunteers.

Key Responsibilities:

As the Program Manager for the Victim Assistance Unit, your primary duties will include:

  1. Establishing objectives and performance metrics for the victim services program while evaluating the effectiveness of service delivery to promote ongoing enhancement.
  2. Designing and implementing training programs for volunteers, along with providing on-the-job mentorship.
  3. Offering motivational leadership to staff and a diverse group of volunteers, with a focus on service delivery through a volunteer model.
  4. Conducting data analysis to prepare reports, correspondence, and statistical summaries for various stakeholders.
  5. Managing the budget effectively, including reporting and applying for government grant funding.
  6. Providing expert guidance, best practices, and constructive feedback regarding the victim services program.
  7. Ensuring adherence to relevant legislation, including the Victim of Crime Act, Public Safety Act, Victim Bill of Rights, FOIP, and other applicable laws and regulations.
Qualifications:

To be considered for this role, candidates should possess:

  1. A bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a related field such as Criminology, Social Sciences, Management, or a similar discipline from an accredited institution.
  2. A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience, including at least two (2) years in managing a social service or volunteer program.
  3. Current registration with the appropriate professional regulatory body, if applicable.
  4. A valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
  5. Successful completion of a comprehensive security clearance as mandated by the Medicine Hat Police Service, including a polygraph examination.
