Position Overview: Program Manager - Victim Assistance Unit

Employment Type: Permanent, Full-time, On-site

The City of Medicine Hat is dedicated to providing support and resources to victims and witnesses of crime. We are in search of a dedicated and skilled Program Manager to oversee our Victim Assistance Unit, ensuring that we effectively assist those affected by crime. This role is pivotal in shaping the strategic direction, administration, and evaluation of victim service initiatives. The successful candidate will possess a profound understanding of victim advocacy, program oversight, and exemplary leadership capabilities to guide both staff and volunteers.

Key Responsibilities:

As the Program Manager for the Victim Assistance Unit, your duties will include:

  1. Establishing objectives and performance metrics for the victim services program while evaluating the effectiveness of service delivery with an emphasis on ongoing enhancement.
  2. Designing and implementing training programs for volunteers, including on-the-job mentorship.
  3. Providing motivational leadership to staff and a substantial volunteer base, with a focus on service delivery through a volunteer model.
  4. Collecting and analyzing data to prepare reports, correspondence, and statistical information for various stakeholders.
  5. Managing the budget effectively, including reporting and applying for government grant funding.
  6. Offering expertise, best practices, and constructive feedback on matters related to the victim services program.
  7. Ensuring adherence to relevant laws and regulations, including the Victim of Crime Act, Public Safety Act, and the Victim Bill of Rights.
Qualifications:

To be considered for this role, candidates should possess:

  1. A bachelor's degree in Social Work or a related field such as Criminology, Social Sciences, or Management from an accredited institution.
  2. A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience, including at least two (2) years in managing a social service or volunteer program.
  3. Current registration with the applicable professional regulatory body, if required.
  4. A valid Class 5 Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.
  5. Successful completion of a comprehensive security clearance as per the City of Medicine Hat's policies, including a polygraph examination.
