Position Overview: As a Senior Financial Accountant, you will be an integral part of a team providing financial guidance and support to various business units. By leveraging your understanding of operations, you will assist in achieving financial objectives and business goals. Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with business unit representatives to gather, analyze, and review data to prepare operating and capital budgets, budget status reports, monthly management reports, executive summaries, and year-end financial statements, along with forecasting and budget projections.
  • Assisting Finance Coordinators and the Finance Lead in developing and applying financial and economic tools, including business scenario modeling and evaluations.
  • Supporting the Financial Services Lead and Senior Department Accountant with month-end reporting and preparation of working papers for monthly, periodic, and year-end reporting.
  • Reviewing and analyzing internal financial controls, risk management, and business processes in collaboration with business units.
  • Examining grant programs, program expenses, revenues, and recoveries.
  • Conducting variance analysis through both quantitative and qualitative methods.
  • Overseeing the budgeting process and reconciliations for positions.
  • Performing zero-based budgeting analysis.
  • Facilitating business performance reporting through the analysis of financials related to recreation facilities.
  • Participating in project teams or providing subject matter expertise as needed.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 13 accounting courses recognized by CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant).
  • Several years of experience in a complex, computerized accounting environment.
  • Technical accounting expertise, including budget analysis and preparation of year-end financial statements and working papers.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft Financial and Supply Chain Management (FSCM), Human Capital Management (HCM), and Hyperion (Budget Planning and Reporting); knowledge of Oracle SmartView for MS Office is an asset.
  • Experience with grant programs and accounting for not-for-profit organizations.
  • Creative problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with a proven capacity to work effectively in a team setting.
  • Strong communication skills with customers and operations, including experience handling sensitive information.
