Seeking Skilled Support Specialists for Our Semi-Independent Living (SIL) and Community Connections (CC) Initiatives.

Male personnel may be necessary for one of the roles.

Innovative Community Support Services (ICSS) is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to developing and delivering innovative, high-quality, and cost-effective community-based programs and services that foster a strong sense of wellbeing while positively impacting our culturally diverse community.

NOTE: A VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE & VEHICLE IS REQUIRED.

Mileage compensation provided during shifts (0.55 cents per kilometer).

The specialist offers person-centered and adaptable support to individuals in community programming. The specialist will engage directly with individuals facing developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, challenging behaviors, and/or dual diagnoses to assist in goal setting and making healthy life choices. Support is provided in various environments, including shelters, hospitals, residences, and agency locations.

Shift patterns consist of a scheduled rotation with primarily 8-hour shifts, including days/evenings/weekends. The rotation options are:

Sunday to Thursday with Friday & Saturday off or,

Tuesday to Saturday with Sunday & Monday off.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Mentor and instruct on life skills such as communication, emotional coping, budgeting, household management, sexual health, healthy relationships, boundaries, self-care, self-expression, social skills, coping mechanisms, hygiene, community awareness, and personal safety.
  • Understand and advocate for the rights and responsibilities of individuals.
  • Work autonomously or collaboratively to prioritize and fulfill shift requirements while addressing individual needs.
  • Provide assistance to individuals by executing duties and adhering to their support plans, considering their preferences and actively involving them.
  • Identify community services that meet individual needs across social, economic, recreational, physical, vocational, and educational domains. Offer guidance and support to facilitate participation.
  • Engage in assessment, goal setting, and program planning for individuals while efficiently managing a caseload.
  • Perform delegated tasks as instructed by professionals, including medication administration and executing range of motion exercises per medical guidelines within established agency policies and individual support plans.
  • Assist with personal hygiene while upholding the individual's dignity and respect.
  • May be required to undertake general cleaning tasks.
  • Ensure accuracy, confidentiality, and security of agency records.
  • Complete necessary administrative tasks.
  • Foster and maintain respectful and positive collaborative relationships to contribute to the integrated, seamless delivery of services from ICSS, including individuals, staff, families, and community partners.

Required Skills/Knowledge/Experience

  • DSW, SSW, CYW, or three years of experience in the field working with challenging behaviors.
  • Familiarity with individualized plans.
  • Cooking and cleaning abilities.
  • Capacity to organize, plan, and prioritize tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to follow directions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Problem-solving skills and decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and support new individuals with limited information.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Employment Conditions

  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Access to a personal vehicle for work-related purposes.
  • A driver's abstract with fewer than four minor infractions and no serious convictions or suspensions.
  • Valid vehicle insurance.
  • A clean Vulnerable Sector Police Check is required.
  • A valid First Aid/CPR Level C certificate is required.
  • A letter of good health and documentation of all up-to-date applicable immunizations is required.
