Job Summary

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to join the City of St. Catharines as a By-Law Enforcement Officer. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for enforcing municipal by-laws and provincial legislation, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing excellent customer service to the public.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigate and Enforce By-Laws: Conduct investigations into alleged by-law infractions, gather evidence, and take enforcement action as necessary.
  • Collect and Document Evidence: Collect and document evidence related to by-law infractions, including photographs, witness statements, and other relevant information.
  • Provide Customer Service: Respond to public inquiries, provide information, and resolve issues related to by-law compliance.
  • Collaborate with Other Departments: Work with other city departments, such as building and fire services, to ensure compliance with regulations and by-laws.
  • Prepare and Present Cases: Prepare and present cases in court, as required, to prosecute by-law infractions.
  • Stay Up-to-Date with Regulations: Stay current with changes to municipal by-laws and provincial legislation, and ensure that enforcement actions are consistent with these regulations.
Requirements
  • Education: Minimum of a Grade 12 diploma, plus supplementary courses in municipal law enforcement, property standards, and building codes.
  • Experience: Three years of related experience in a municipal environment, with a strong understanding of by-law enforcement and customer service principles.
  • Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Certifications: Registration with the Municipal Law Enforcement Officers Association (MLEOA) and certification as a Municipal Law Enforcement Officer within three years of commencement of duties.
