Position Overview

The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking a dynamic leader for the role of Director of Municipal Development. This position is integral to the enhancement of municipal infrastructure across the province, ensuring the creation of safe and thriving communities.

About the Role

As the Director of Municipal Development, you will oversee the Municipal Infrastructure division, which collaborates with numerous municipalities to facilitate access to essential funding programs. Your leadership will be pivotal in shaping the future of infrastructure management in Nova Scotia.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Direct the Municipal Infrastructure Programs team in the planning, execution, and evaluation of various funding initiatives.
  • Guide the Strategic Initiatives team in developing asset management strategies that address both current and future infrastructure needs.
  • Establish and nurture partnerships to optimize infrastructure investments, aligning them with the needs of stakeholders.

Primary Duties

Your responsibilities will encompass a broad spectrum of tasks aimed at enhancing municipal funding programs and ensuring effective infrastructure management. You will lead cross-functional teams and serve as a key advisor to senior leadership.

A few of your primary duties include:

  • Designing and managing funding programs with a focus on equity and accountability.
  • Negotiating agreements with federal and provincial partners to maximize funding benefits.
  • Implementing strategies for effective municipal infrastructure management and promoting collaboration among municipalities.
  • Fostering a cohesive team environment through inspirational leadership and clear communication.
  • Overseeing budget preparation and ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Managing the dissemination of program information to stakeholders with discretion and expertise.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or a related discipline, along with substantial experience in program delivery and financial oversight. Your background should include leadership roles in program design and implementation, as well as experience in managing high-performing teams.

Strong negotiation skills and the ability to navigate complex political landscapes are essential. Familiarity with relevant legislation and regulations will contribute to your success in this role.
