The National Research Council Canada (NRC) is seeking a highly qualified Director or Director, Research and Development to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for leading a team of researchers and technicians in the development of innovative technologies and solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of 7-9 team leaders with approximately 70 research and technical staff to achieve optimal project execution, resource management, and continuous professional development of personnel.
  • Play a key role in the management team of the Centre for Research in Development of Cultures and Aquatic Resources and provide the Director General with timely and informed advice and assurance of alignment with strategy, scientific and technical excellence, and client satisfaction.
  • Maximize the value and impact of DCRA's contribution to various NRC research and development programs focused on Canadian public policy initiatives.
  • Work closely with external stakeholders and clients to conduct research and development to achieve common objectives.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in a relevant scientific field from a recognized university.
  • Significant experience in a scientific field related to the research axes and technologies of the Centre for Research in Development of Cultures and Aquatic Resources, including the support and direction of program or project development.
  • Experience in supervising and developing scientific personnel within multidisciplinary teams, including in a matrix project and program environment.
  • Appreciable experience and recent application of leadership principles, administrative, financial, and human resources management tools and practices.
  • Experience in analyzing technological trends and establishing research directions in relevant application domains for marine bioresources.
  • Appreciable experience and proven ability in establishing partnerships or business opportunities with industry, academia, governments, and other partners, coupled with highly effective interpersonal skills.

  • Program and project management: knowledge of program and project management, as well as strategic and operational planning.

  • Collaboration and teamwork: manifest and effective ability to collaborate and work effectively with a wide range of employees, colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.

Salary Range

$150,435 to $180,450 per year.
