The Recreation Specialist plays a vital role within the team, ensuring the delivery of exceptional, individualized care for participants in the Adult Day Program (Hildegarde Centre). This position involves the planning, development, execution, and assessment of a diverse activity schedule tailored for clients experiencing dementia-related conditions. The goal is to provide clients with opportunities to maintain their physical, mental, spiritual, and social health, while honoring the core values and mission of Providence Care Centre.
Qualifications & Experience- Completion of an accredited diploma or degree in fields such as Recreation and Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology, Behavioral Sciences, or a related discipline; or currently enrolled in such a program with graduation anticipated within one year of hire.
- A minimum of two years' experience working with elderly clients in long-term care or similar health care environments.
- Experience with clients diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease, dementia, or disabilities.
- Food handling certification required or to be completed prior to employment commencement.
- CPR Basic Rescuer and First Aid certification preferred.
- Training in Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) is an asset.
- Completion of a course focused on Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, or demonstrated experience working with individuals affected by dementia is preferred.
- Montessori training program completion is desirable.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and French is preferred.
- Gathers insights about clients to effectively address individual and group needs through both formal and informal assessments.
- Actively engages as a member of the team.
- Designs, implements, and evaluates tailored individual and group programs that align with the clients' unique needs and the overarching activity framework.
- Facilitates the transportation of clients to and from various activities.
- Develops and oversees volunteer/student-led initiatives, utilizing established protocols for volunteer recruitment, orientation, and ongoing supervision.
- Adjusts programs to meet the evolving needs of clients, ensuring the availability of necessary materials and equipment.
