Position Overview:

The Faculty of Science and Technology at Vancouver Island University provides a comprehensive Bachelor of Science program, encompassing various Majors and Minors, alongside diplomas and certificates. We are committed to delivering exceptional educational experiences through foundational courses in disciplines such as biology, chemistry, computer science, fisheries and aquaculture, geology, mathematics, physics, forestry, and resource management and protection. Responsibilities:

The selected candidates will be responsible for instructing lower-level (100 and 200-level) courses, developing course materials, offering both individual and group instruction, and providing comprehensive student support. Additionally, they will design and implement student assessments, evaluate and grade student submissions, maintain accurate records, collaborate with fellow instructors, and actively engage in departmental activities.

Applicants should possess relevant experience and expertise in teaching and the specific subject areas they wish to instruct. It is essential to specify in the application the courses for which the candidate has professional or teaching experience.

Qualifications:

Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching, learning, and student success, supported by their scholarship and service to the institution. Successful applicants will engage in various activities beyond the classroom, including student support initiatives, participation in institutional and departmental committees, and professional development activities relevant to their disciplines.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants should have a strong emphasis on teaching and student learning, with an understanding of diverse learning styles and backgrounds. A proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment is essential, along with a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion within the educational setting.

Specific Discipline Requirements:

  • Biology, Chemistry, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics: Doctoral degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution. Candidates with a Master's degree and pertinent teaching or industry experience may also be considered.
  • Forestry: Master's Degree in natural resource management or equivalent, or Bachelor's degree with 5 years of relevant work experience in British Columbia; capability to conduct instruction and fieldwork in typical coastal forest conditions.
  • Geology: Master's degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Resource Management and Protection: Master's degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution or Bachelor's degree with 5 years of relevant work experience in the public or private sector. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.
