Building Science integrates a wide array of scientific and practical expertise concerning the design, functionality, construction, restoration, upkeep, and operation of both new and existing structures. This field encompasses critical elements of the building envelope, including cladding systems, insulation, air and vapor control, windows and doors, roofing systems, and waterproofing solutions for both new and existing structures. WSP Building Sciences boasts a robust Centres of Excellence (COE) program that fosters best practices and offers training and mentorship opportunities for our team members. As part of our Building Sciences division, you will have the chance to engage in this program.
Our teams in British Columbia collaborate with project managers and specialists in structural, mechanical, electrical, environmental, and civil engineering on a diverse range of projects across the region.
Our Building Sciences services include:
- Design and commissioning of new building envelope systems and components;
- Building condition assessments for existing structures, envelopes, parkades, and sites;
- Reserve fund studies for condominium projects;
- Design and execution of remediation and rehabilitation initiatives for various building types;
- Engineering services during tender and construction phases to support our design efforts.
- Lead project teams and apply engineering expertise in building science, structural remediation, and audits;
- Assume professional responsibility for engineering designs and certifications;
- Prepare proposals for securing building science projects;
- Engage with clients and project stakeholders throughout all project phases;
- Oversee contract administration for projects;
- Coordinate with contractors, sub-consultants, and various engineering disciplines;
- Conduct and supervise site reviews during construction to ensure quality standards are met;
- Accept accountability for project tasks, deliverables, and outcomes;
- Incorporate sustainable practices within project execution;
- Contribute to the knowledge base within the Building Science practice.
The ideal candidate will possess a blend of education and experience, including:
- A Bachelor's degree in Building Science Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is essential;
- 5-10 years of experience in the engineering or construction sector, focusing on design, consulting, or advisory roles for building systems (candidates with more extensive experience are encouraged to apply);
- Experience in Building Condition Assessment and Reserve Fund Study reporting is advantageous but not mandatory;
- Registration with EGBC as a P. Eng. or eligibility for registration immediately after hiring; registration in other provinces is a plus;
- Prior experience in consulting engineering or construction is highly desirable;
- Excellent time management and organizational skills, with a keen attention to detail;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including presentation capabilities;
- Familiarity with building materials and construction processes related to building envelopes, cladding systems, roofs, and parking structures;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
- A collaborative team player with an entrepreneurial mindset and a desire to work alongside motivated individuals;
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities;
- Willingness to travel to project sites and work flexible hours as necessary;
- Capability to obtain various government security clearances (facilitated by WSP);
- Ability to work at heights (training provided by WSP);
- Commitment to fostering a respectful workplace environment;
- Experience and training in Workplace Health and Safety protocols, with an understanding of Safe Work Practices and Procedures is beneficial;
- A valid driver's license in good standing (abstract may be requested).
Expected Salary Range: $84,200.00 to $100,123.00
