Job Summary

The York Catholic District School Board is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Teacher for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students to join our team. As a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, you will play a critical role in supporting students with hearing loss to reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans to meet the unique needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
  • Provide instruction and support in language, speech, and auditory skills
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate Deaf and Hard of Hearing students into regular classrooms
  • Ensure the consistent use of appropriate amplification and assistive technology
  • Travel to various school sites to support student programs and provide professional development to staff
Requirements
  • Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing qualifications or currently enrolled in a Deaf Education Program
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Curricula and the flexibility to work within a range of grade areas
  • Experience in working with personal and classroom amplification
  • Ability and willingness to drive to multiple locations
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working towards Specialist Qualifications: Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
  • Regular classroom teaching experience
  • Experience with assistive technology to support literacy and numeracy acquisition
  • Strong working knowledge of literacy skills
  • Experience working with special needs students
