The York Catholic District School Board is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our educational community, you will play a vital role in supporting students with hearing loss and providing them with the necessary tools to succeed.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement individualized education plans to meet the unique needs of students with hearing loss
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate hearing support into the curriculum
- Provide training and support to school staff on hearing loss and its impact on students
- Stay up-to-date with the latest research and best practices in deaf education
- Work closely with parents and guardians to ensure that students receive the support they need
- Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing qualifications or currently enrolled in a Deaf Education Program
- Knowledge of the Ontario Curricula and the flexibility to work within a range of grade areas
- Experience working with students with hearing loss and their families
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Working towards Specialist Qualifications: Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
- Regular classroom teaching experience
- Experience with assistive technology to support literacy and numeracy acquisition
- Strong working knowledge of literacy skills
- Experience working with special needs students
