Oncology Unit Administrative Assistant
PHSA - BC Cancer
The Oncology Unit Administrative Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the clinic by performing a variety of administrative tasks. This position involves managing appointment schedules, processing medical orders, and fostering a safe and welcoming environment for both patients and healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately transcribing and managing clinician orders, scheduling necessary tests and services, and updating the electronic health record system
- Coordinating essential diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients while providing them with clear instructions
- Collecting and organizing patient information for medical visits and assisting in the overall patient flow
- Performing front desk duties, including welcoming patients, handling registrations, and responding to inquiries
- Assisting in the onboarding and training of new staff members and supporting student clinical placements
Qualifications:
- Completion of secondary education (Grade 12)
- Familiarity with medical terminology
- Graduation from an accredited Nursing Unit Clerk Program
- A minimum of one year of relevant experience or a suitable combination of education and training
Essential Skills:
- Strong communication abilities
- Proficiency in typing at least 40 words per minute
- Physical capability to fulfill the responsibilities of the role
- Commitment to reconciliation initiatives and awareness of their importance
