Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Probationary Fire Training Officer to join our team at the Woodstock Art Gallery. As a key member of our training department, you will be responsible for developing and delivering comprehensive training programs for our firefighters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safety and Risk Management
    • Supervise high-risk emergency training evolutions to ensure a safe learning environment.
    • Evaluate emergency operations and critique to determine department training requirements.
  • Training Development and Delivery
    • Approve, develop, conduct, and evaluate training plans and curriculum for the Department.
    • Maintain accurate training records, document mandated training according to departmental and legislative standards.
  • Training Administration
    • Administer and monitor secondary and college level cooperative education programs.
    • Conduct performance evaluations of Coop Students.
  • Compliance and Quality Assurance
    • Ensure compliance with legislative standards, departmental policies, and best practices.
    • Counsel employees on available training and educational opportunities.
  • Financial Management
    • Prepare training budget, control and monitor expenditures.
Qualifications
  • Education
    • Grade 12 education or equivalent secondary education as established by the Ontario Ministry of Education.
  • Professional Certifications
    • NFPA 1001 – Fire Fighter I & II Certified.
    • NFPA 1021 – Fire Officer Level II Certified.
    • NFPA 1041 – Fire Instructor Level II Certified.
  • Skills and Experience
    • Ability to instruct, develop, and deliver training in all areas of Fire & Emergency Services operations.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel.
    • Ability to prepare and administer training budget.
    • Experience in classroom instruction and in the usage of audio-visual aids.
    • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
    • Instructional experience in emergency medical response.
    • Instructional and practical experience in incident command.
    • Knowledge of NFPA 1500, NFPA 1403, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Section 21 committee guidelines.
    • Experience in incident safety officer roles.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Additional Certifications
    • Blue Card Command Certified Instructor.
    • NFPA 1521 – Incident Safety Officer Certified.
  • Skills and Experience
    • Instructional experience in advanced extrication is preferred.
    • Instructional experience in hazardous materials response is preferred.
    • Instructional experience in various technical rescue disciplines, including ice/water rescue, rope rescue, trench rescue, confined space rescue and structural collapse is preferred.
    • Experience and proficiency in e-learning, virtual reality simulation and other multi-media training platforms.
    • Administrative and computer skills.
