Probationary Fire Training Officer

Job Summary:
The City of Woodstock is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Probationary Fire Training Officer to join our team. As a key member of our Fire Training Division, you will be responsible for developing and delivering training programs to ensure the highest level of fire safety and emergency response in our community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement training programs for fire fighters and emergency responders
- Evaluate emergency operations and critique to determine department training requirements
- Approve, develop, conduct, and evaluate training plans and curriculum for the Department
- Maintain accurate training records and ensure compliance with legislative standards and departmental policies
- Administer and monitor secondary and college level cooperative education programs and conduct performance evaluations of Coop Students
- Participate in the development and administration of departmental testing procedures
- Ensure compliance with legislative standards, departmental policies, and best practices
- Counsel employees on available training and educational opportunities
- Prepare training budget, control and monitor expenditures
- May be assigned to assist at an emergency scene as sector or safety officer
- Under the direction of the Chief, attend Emergency Management Ontario Training sessions and deliver appropriate training to Emergency Management Personnel
- Attend additional training as directed by the Fire Chief
- Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Grade 12 education or equivalent secondary education as established by the Ontario Ministry of Education
- NFPA 1001 – Fire Fighter I & II Certified
- NFPA 1021 – Fire Officer Level II Certified
- NFPA 1041 – Fire Instructor Level II Certified
- Ability to instruct, develop, and deliver training in all areas of Fire & Emergency Services operations
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel
- Ability to prepare and administer training budget
- Experience in classroom instruction and in the usage of audio-visual aids
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Instructional experience in emergency medical response
- Instructional and practical experience in incident command
- Knowledge of NFPA 1500, NFPA 1403, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Section 21 committee guidelines
- Experience in incident safety officer roles
- Must possess and maintain a valid, Class "D" Ontario Driver's License with "Z" endorsement
Preferred:
- Blue Card Command Certified Instructor
- NFPA 1521 – Incident Safety Officer Certified
- Instructional experience in advanced extrication is preferred
- Instructional experience in hazardous materials response is preferred
- Instructional experience in various technical rescue disciplines, including ice/water rescue, rope rescue, trench rescue, confined space rescue and structural collapse is preferred
- Experience and proficiency in e-learning, virtual reality simulation and other multi-media training platforms
- Administrative and computer skills
