About the Role:

Cowan Insurance Group is seeking a dedicated Manager of Wellness and Disability to oversee our strategic initiatives in Disability Management and Wellness services. This role involves ensuring the effective execution of growth and retention strategies while leading a team of professional Case Managers to deliver exceptional service to our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a remote team of Case Managers, providing mentorship on complex cases and ensuring equitable workload distribution.
  • Establish and track performance metrics to optimize case management efficiency and support employees in their recovery journey.
  • Address escalated claims and appeals as necessary.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients to foster satisfaction and retention.
  • Develop strong relationships with key clients to identify their needs and explore new business opportunities.
  • Participate in client meetings to discuss enhancements and trends in disability management.
  • Collaborate with leadership on special projects as needed.
  • Assist in the identification and development of new business opportunities.
  • Analyze disability data and costs to pinpoint areas for improvement in claims management.
  • Work with reporting analysts to generate regular reports and dashboards for clients, offering recommendations for best practices.
  • Support Group Benefit Consultants in clearly communicating our Disability Management and Wellness offerings.
  • Coordinate with internal audit and training teams to ensure Case Managers deliver high-quality service and receive ongoing training.
  • Promote wellness initiatives to help clients cultivate healthier workplaces.

Qualifications:

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and French, both verbal and written, is essential.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in disability management.
  • Previous experience in a leadership role is required.
  • A degree or post-secondary education in a health-related field is advantageous.
  • In-depth knowledge of employment standards, WSIB/WCB/CSST, human rights, and labor relations concerning disability management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with group insurance principles and contracts.
  • Experience in employer wellness or human resource practices is a plus.
  • Disability Management Professional designation is an asset.
  • Ability to integrate various disability systems and processes.
  • Strong analytical skills for data interpretation and reporting.
  • Self-motivated with a capacity for independent learning.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to engage and inspire remote teams.
  • Strong presentation skills, comfortable speaking to groups.
  • Proven ability to lead teams through change and challenges.
  • Collaborative leadership style that fosters staff development.
