Overview

In the role of Environmental Compliance Coordinator, you will work closely with the Environmental Manager to oversee initiatives that ensure our operations adhere to environmental regulations and standards. Your primary responsibility will be to collect, evaluate, and interpret data to assess the potential impacts of mining activities on the surrounding ecosystem. You will also facilitate the permitting processes to guarantee that all necessary permits are valid and in compliance with regulatory requirements.

Hecla Mining Company operates the Keno Hill mine, situated in one of the world's premier silver districts in the Yukon Territory. This expansive site, rich in mineral deposits and historical mining activity, is poised for significant silver production in the near future. Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with regulatory agency representatives.
  • Collaborate with regulatory bodies to assess environmental quality standards, permit obligations, and advancements in pollution control, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
  • Assist in the formulation and execution of critical studies and action plans aimed at supporting environmental compliance and permitting efforts.
  • Oversee various project management tasks related to regulatory and permitting obligations.
  • Track and ensure compliance with environmental legislation, regulations, and site permits, adhering to industry best practices.
  • Support the review, auditing, and reporting processes related to site compliance.
  • Guarantee adherence to the conditions of all licenses, permits, and applicable environmental regulations.
  • Provide technical support for permit renewals, ensuring timely processing.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of environmental commitments and regulatory inspections.
  • Review technical documentation and coordinate with technical consultants as necessary.
  • Promote a robust environmental culture by advocating for sustainable practices.
  • Encourage a strong safety culture by exemplifying safe work practices.
  • Be part of a supportive team that values collaboration and mutual assistance.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, geology, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in mining, resource management, environmental oversight, or regulatory compliance is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant laws, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of conveying complex information to both site personnel and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining accurate records.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with various stakeholders, including regulatory agencies and Indigenous communities.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.
  • A strong ethical foundation and a commitment to fostering a safe and environmentally responsible workplace.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license is required.

Work Environment

This position will primarily be based in an office setting with regular travel to operational sites. Employees may encounter various environmental conditions, including extreme weather and potential hazards associated with mining operations.
