Our Canadian team is expanding, and we are seeking an Intermediate Environmental Scientist to join our Assessment, Social, and Ecology division in the Yukon office.
Your ResponsibilitiesIn this position, you will engage in a diverse range of activities, including:
- Leading biological surveys, performing habitat evaluations, overseeing environmental compliance monitoring, and managing environmental permits.
- Collecting, managing, interpreting data, and preparing technical reports.
- Assisting in the formulation of scopes of work and budgets for proposals.
- Creating and executing terrestrial and aquatic habitat mitigation and offset strategies.
- Contributing to the compilation and drafting of regulatory submissions.
- Supporting the development of environmental assessment reports and collaborating with project teams throughout all phases of a project life cycle, including planning, feasibility studies, environmental impact assessments, and post-assessment permitting and compliance.
- Facilitating communication processes among proponents, environmental teams, and regulatory bodies.
- Engaging with regulatory agencies and Indigenous communities.
- Mentoring junior team members.
- Providing and receiving constructive feedback on work performance.
- Adhering to health and safety protocols and quality standards across all projects and reports.
- A degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, or a related discipline.
- 5 to 7 years of experience in environmental consulting.
- A professional designation (e.g., R.P.Bio or P.Biol.) or eligibility for such a designation.
- Familiarity with provincial, territorial, and federal environmental regulations acquired through formal education or practical experience.
- Experience in proposal development.
- Proven experience in leading and conducting biological surveys, habitat assessments, environmental monitoring, permitting, and reporting.
- Willingness to work outdoors in challenging weather conditions for extended periods and in remote areas.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with environmental subcontractors.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying complex concepts to diverse audiences, including clients, regulators, community members, and other stakeholders.
- Independent and strategic thinking, with a positive attitude, self-motivation, and a strong work ethic.
- Capability to collaborate with both junior and senior staff on various projects of varying complexity.
- Adaptability to a dynamic and fast-paced work environment.
- Proficiency in computer applications and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
- A valid driver's license.
- Strong commitment to health and safety practices.
