Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Environmental Compliance Specialist to join our team at Hecla Mining. As a key member of our environmental team, you will be responsible for ensuring that our operations are environmentally responsible and regulatory compliant.

Key Responsibilities
  • Environmental Compliance: Develop and implement effective environmental compliance strategies to ensure that our operations meet all relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Permitting and Licensing: Coordinate and manage the permitting and licensing process for our operations, ensuring that all necessary permits and licenses are obtained and maintained.
  • Regulatory Affairs: Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, ensuring that we are aware of and comply with all relevant regulations and standards.
  • Environmental Monitoring: Develop and implement effective environmental monitoring programs to ensure that our operations are not causing harm to the environment.
  • Reporting and Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of our environmental compliance and monitoring activities, and prepare reports as required.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, environmental policy, geology, biology, engineering or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years' experience in environmental compliance, permitting, and regulatory affairs, preferably in the mining industry.
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and effective industry best practices. Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Certifications: Possession of a valid driver's license and any other certifications required for the role.
Work Environment

This is a full-time position based in Whitehorse, Yukon, with frequent travel to site. While at site, employees will be exposed to various environmental conditions, including extreme cold and heat, and may be required to work in hazardous environments.
