About the Role

Westinghouse Electric Company LLC. is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for providing technical oversight and mentoring to junior engineers, while driving innovation and new methods in the development of new technologies and nuclear systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide input and direction to the development of conceptual/detailed equipment designs as they progress through a structured design process
  • Perform both classical hand calculations and analysis (including FEA) to qualify systems and/or components against applicable codes & standards
  • Prepare clear and concise design reports and technical specifications
  • Review, approve and seal design reports, technical documentation and drawings
  • Drive innovation and new methods in the development of new technologies and nuclear systems
  • Collaborate globally within the Westinghouse Engineering framework alongside SMEs and nuclear specialists
  • Support resolution of issues throughout design, manufacture and testing of systems and/or components
Requirements
  • Mechanical Engineering degree or other relevant engineering discipline
  • Licensed member of Professional Engineers Ontario required
  • 6+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience in conceptual design development, design reviews and engineering change control processes
  • Experience in the substantiation of custom equipment typically: steel structures, hoisting/lifting systems, mechanical drive/positioning systems
  • Experience working within 3D CAD systems and with ANSYS (FEA)
  • Thorough understanding of manufacturing techniques, welding procedures or specifications and associated inspection techniques
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfortable leading meetings and giving presentations
  • Strong interpersonal skills, experience working effectively in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Application of the relevant codes and standards applicable to the design of nuclear components and systems including specialized tooling and remote handling equipment
  • Experience with software such as Solid Works, Autodesk Inventor and ANSYS (FEA)
  • Experience in pressure retaining systems to CSA and ASME design codes
  • Experience interfacing with customer representatives and providing oversight to vendors
  • Experience with radiological shielding design and/or equipment
