Mechanical Equipment Engineering Team Lead

About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Equipment Engineer Team Lead to join our team at BWX Technologies. As a key member of our Mechanical Equipment Engineering department, you will be responsible for leading a team of engineers in the design, development, and testing of mechanical equipment and systems for CANDU reactors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of engineers in the design, development, and testing of mechanical equipment and systems for CANDU reactors.
- Provide technical direction and oversight of design activities, including technical review and verification of documentation and/or drawings.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and financial metrics.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including systems, I&C, software design, and manufacturing.
- Ensure compliance with industry codes and standards, quality systems, policies, and contractual requirements.
- Participate in internal and external meetings, including design reviews and technical presentations.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including technical reports, evaluations, and assessments.
- Provide technical support to CAD, Procurement, Manufacturing, Test, Quality, and Commissioning and Service personnel.
- Lead process change through process enhancement and technology introduction to achieve world-class product development and product deployment.
- Build customer relationships and ensure market alignment.
- Participate in proposal development and review, including scope review and estimate preparation.
Requirements:
- B.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering.
- Holds a current PEO license.
- Typically requires 15 years' experience in design engineering in Nuclear, Aerospace, Transportation, or other highly regulated and process-based design.
- Typically requires 8 years' experience in design and development, with proven success in a technical leadership role.
- Demonstrated ability with supporting leadership on complex and general engineering projects over their complete EPC life cycles.
- Demonstrable experience with project schedules, working within budgets, financial metrics, and other project management methodologies.
- Exposure with a broad range of interdisciplinary activities; systems design, requirements development, interface design, and testing.
- Exposure to a broad range of interdisciplinary departments: systems, I&C, software design, and manufacturing.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, understandable by a diverse audience.
- Creative problem-solving skills, outstanding analytical abilities, developing leadership skills, and the ability to work in a team.
- Flexibility to work remotely on short-term customer site assignments.
Desired Characteristics:
- Experience with 3D CAD software (preference for Inventor/Solidworks) and FEA software (ANSYS).
- Experience in the CANDU Nuclear Industry.
- Familiarity with CSA Nuclear Codes and Standards.
- Familiarity with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes and Standards.
- Competency in machine design.
