About the Role

The Director of Labour Relations will play a key role in implementing the mission, goals, and objectives of the organization. This leader will provide strategic advice and administrative oversight for matters related to collective bargaining, arbitrations, grievances, and legal counsel. The successful candidate will foster positive relationships, maintain a healthy and productive workplace, and work with all departments and education partners to effectively advocate for the members of the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership: Provide decision-making support and strategic advice to the Executive Director and Senior Management Team.
  • Collective Bargaining and Arbitrations: Manage collective bargaining, arbitrations, grievances, and legal counsel to ensure effective resolution of disputes.
  • Labour Relations Expertise: Provide leadership for internal policy and bylaw development, and work with all departments and education partners to effectively advocate for the members of the organization.
  • Conflict Resolution: Analyze situations and resolve tensions, conflicts, and differences of opinion with individuals and groups.
  • Operational Planning: Coordinate day-to-day operations, respond to emergent issues, and meet deadlines.
  • Leadership and Management: Proven leadership skills and ability to successfully lead a department, with a strong commitment to equity and diversity.
Qualifications
  • Education: Completion of post-secondary education in a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years of experience in Labour Relations in a unionized environment, with demonstrated experience or expertise in collective bargaining, dispute resolution, and labour/employment law.
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of collective agreements, collective bargaining, arbitration, and grievance procedures, as well as employment legislation.
