Mississauga, Ontario, Canada Maple Leaf Foods Full time
The Role:

In this pivotal position, you will report directly to the Head of Asset Management and Reliability, becoming an integral part of the Asset Reliability Group (ARG) at Maple Leaf Foods. The ARG is dedicated to enhancing manufacturing reliability and operational maturity across the Maple Leaf network of facilities in North America. Your responsibilities will include the development and execution of strategies aimed at reliability, asset management, and maintenance to achieve top-tier performance.

This role is essential in advancing site-level asset reliability (AR) initiatives, concentrating on site dependability, maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) management, as well as improving plant maintenance practices. Key objectives include minimizing mechanical and electrical downtime, optimizing maintenance expenditures, reducing safety hazards, and prolonging asset lifespans. You will lead a team of asset reliability specialists in this capacity.

This highly visible role demands a strong focus on customer relations and involves regular interactions, negotiations, presentations, and direct engagement with various stakeholders, including plant maintenance managers, plant managers, and leaders from cross-functional teams such as Engineering, Operations Excellence, and Finance.

A solid background in asset reliability is essential, along with strong independent judgment, hands-on experience in manufacturing environments, analytical capabilities, project management expertise, effective decision-making, stakeholder engagement, and exceptional communication and presentation skills.

Daily Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and manage the implementation and sustainability of asset reliability programs at the plant level, collaborating with cross-functional teams while mentoring maintenance personnel, tracking progress, and ensuring effective execution and controls.
  • Assist plant maintenance teams in identifying reliability risks and inefficiencies to minimize downtime, establish action plans, monitor progress, and provide execution support.
  • Take ownership of the MRO optimization initiative, developing and implementing best practices, including tools and process enhancements along with control plans to maintain results.
  • Conduct assessments of plant maintenance maturity, guide improvement actions, assist in formulating and executing gap-closure plans, and track and report progress monthly.
  • Lead a team of asset reliability specialists, offering coaching and guidance to foster their professional growth.
  • Deliver on the ARG annual objectives, long-term strategic roadmap, targets, and priorities.
  • Supervise and report on strategic asset reliability projects, lead analytical efforts, and communicate insights to key stakeholders.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in balancing risks and costs related to equipment reliability, utilizing preventive maintenance optimization and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Provide reliability assessments for new constructions, mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends and innovations in reliability engineering and asset management.
  • Perform additional related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:

Required:

  • A university degree in a technical, engineering, or STEM discipline.
  • At least 8 years of experience in asset reliability, maintenance, or operational excellence roles within fast-paced manufacturing or industrial settings.
  • Experience in technical consulting or client-facing roles.
  • Proven track record in managing corporate-level projects and multi-site deployment of asset reliability initiatives involving complex change management.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities, with the ability to coach and develop a high-performing team.
  • Familiarity with asset reliability principles, methodologies, and best practices (e.g., RCM, FMEA, RCA).
  • Knowledge of MRO inventory management, monitoring, optimization, and best practices.
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), preferably SAP.
  • A proactive, results-driven approach, with strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • A strong inclination towards collaboration and customer service.
  • Advanced proficiency in software applications such as Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Visio.

Preferred:

  • Membership in a Professional Engineering Association (P.Eng.); Six Sigma training and/or an MBA.
  • Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), food safety, and health & safety regulations.
  • Familiarity with reporting and analytical tools, such as Power BI, and financial modeling.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, critical thinking skills, and a passion for operational excellence.
