Position Overview:
Reporting to the Head of Asset Management and Reliability, this role is integral to the Asset Reliability Group (ARG) at Maple Leaf Foods. The ARG is tasked with ensuring the operational reliability and maturity of the Maple Leaf network of facilities across North America. The team formulates and implements strategies for reliability, asset management, and maintenance to achieve exceptional performance.This position enhances site-level asset reliability (AR) initiatives, concentrating on operational reliability, maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) management, and improving plant maintenance practices. Objectives include minimizing mechanical and electrical downtime, optimizing maintenance expenditures, reducing safety hazards, and prolonging asset lifespans. The incumbent will lead a team of asset reliability professionals.
This prominent role necessitates a strong customer-centric approach and involves regular interactions, negotiations, presentations, and direct engagement with various stakeholders at facilities and corporate levels, including maintenance managers, plant managers, senior executives, and leaders from cross-functional teams (e.g., Information Solutions, Engineering, Operations Excellence, Procurement, Food Safety, Sanitation, and Finance).
Proven experience in asset reliability is essential, along with strong independent judgment, hands-on experience in manufacturing environments, analytical capabilities, large-scale project management, effective decision-making, stakeholder engagement, and excellent communication and presentation skills.
Daily Responsibilities:
Lead and oversee the implementation and sustainability of asset reliability programs at the facility level, collaborating with cross-functional teams, coaching maintenance personnel, tracking progress, and ensuring effective execution and controls. Assist plant maintenance teams in identifying reliability risks and problematic areas to decrease mechanical and electrical downtime, establish action plans, monitor progress, and provide execution support. Own the MRO optimization initiative and coaching; develop and implement best practices, including tools and process enhancements along with control plans to maintain results. Conduct assessments of plant maintenance maturity, guide improvement initiatives, assist in creating and executing action plans to close gaps, and track and report monthly progress. Lead a team of asset reliability professionals, providing mentorship and guidance to foster their development. Deliver on the ARG annual objectives, long-term strategic plans, targets, and priorities. Oversee and report on strategic asset reliability projects, lead analytics, and communicate insights to key stakeholders. Serve as a subject matter expert in balancing risks and costs for equipment reliability, utilizing preventive maintenance optimization and key performance indicators (KPIs). Provide reliability due diligence inputs for new projects, mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures. Stay updated on emerging trends and innovations in reliability engineering and asset management. Perform other related tasks as assigned.Qualifications:
Must-have: University degree in a technical, engineering, or STEM field. Minimum of 8 years of experience in asset reliability, maintenance, or operational excellence roles within fast-paced manufacturing or industrial settings. Technical consulting or experience in client-facing or site support roles. Experience managing corporate-level projects and multi-site deployment of asset reliability initiatives with complex change management. Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, with the ability to coach and develop a high-performing team. Knowledge of asset reliability principles, methodologies, and best practices (e.g., RCM, FMEA, RCA). Knowledge of MRO inventory management, monitoring, optimization, and best practices. Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), preferably SAP. Proactive, results-oriented, organized, and adept at managing multiple priorities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all organizational levels. Must thrive on collaboration and possess a service-oriented mindset. Advanced software skills in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Visio. Nice-to-have: Professional Engineering Association Membership (P.Eng.); Six Sigma training and/or MBA. Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), food safety, and health & safety regulations. Familiarity with reporting and analytical platforms, such as Power BI, and financial modeling.
